About Car Tyres Palmerston North

Carters Tyres Service is one of New Zealand’s most iconic tyre companies. Founded in 1985 by New Zealand businessman Gary Carter, today it has more than 40 branches throughout the country.

What makes this company special and important is that it re-invests all its capital in setting up new tyre stores in different towns in all New Zealand, giving back to the community all the support they have given this company over the years.

Carters Tyres Service is a family business managed by Gary and Matt Carter (son) together, achieving to open new modern tyres stores in recent years.

In addition, the company is specialized in car, truck and agricultural tyres. And it also provides the services of alignment, punctures, wheels and batteries.

Carters Tyres Service are New Zealand´s largest independent 100% kiwi owned and operated serving clients like big trucks companies to the smaller family wagons. For tractor to racing cars, from north to south in the country, the company always has its doors open for customers who need tyres.

Palmerston North is one of the largest provincial cities in New Zealand and has an attractive historic center. Many of the original stores, built in the 1920s and 1930s, were restored and today function as boutiques (opens in new window), cafes and restaurants (opens in new window).

We also recommend including the rose gardens and museums (opens in new window) in your tour, in particular the Dugald McKenzie Rose Center and the Te Manawa Gallery and Museum Complex (opens in new window).

For sports enthusiasts, the rugby museum (opens in new window) is a must-see. Palmerston North is famous for its interesting dramatic productions. Check the billboard at local theaters. If you want to see a majestic landscape, take a walk through Manawatu George.

Falken Tyres History

Falken Tire is a brand of passenger car, light truck, and medium truck tires owned by the Japanese company Sumitomo Rubber Industries (SRI). It was launched in its native country of Japan in 1983, and was introduced to the North American market two years later and in Europe in 1988.

Sumitomo is a rubber industry manufacturing company that is based out Japan and is probably one of the largest rubber manufacturer industries in the world. Sumitomo has just been at the forefront of everything and anything rubber related. And when they decided to start getting into more heavily they partnered with any company that they could.

Sumitomo originally got involved with Dunlop tire manufacturing in 1909, they just decided to create a partnership and it worked very well for them for a very long time. As the years progress, the two companies essentially became friends with benefits, they just continued to grow and intermingle either in Japan or just throughout the world.

Dunlop and Sumitomo essentially reconfigured and split partnership ways and Sumitomo turned into SRI. Which is Sumitomo Rubber Industries and Dunlop still considered to be a brand that they use and develop and produce. Today Dunlop belong 75% to Goodyear and 25% to Sumitomo.

Sumitomo and Goodyear had a pretty long lasting relationship, it lasted about 18 years. In June 2015, Sumitomo and Goodyear announced that they would dissolve their worldwide partnership. As part of the deal, Sumitomo bought Goodyear Dunlop Tires North America, and began produce Falken Tire-branded tires in January 2016.

Falken really didn’t enter the market like a lot of other companies usually do. You see when a tire manufacturer company comes into a market; they usually come out with like a bunch of marketing money, a bunch of plans to integrate into the consumer world. Falken didn´t do that, they only just jump to the motor sport world.

Falken started made tires only for race car drivers and then start made tires for consumers. That´s why Falken is just known as an ultra-high performance tire that specializes in racing.
